This plant is blooming in our front yard and we see ones just like it everywhere, but I don't know what it is.

Also, we have a camelia and a heather bush in the front yard that are in bloom right now.

The first one is Pieris japonica - Japanese Andromeda and the second one is Prunus cerasifera 'Thundercloud' - Japanese Flowering Plum

You're so right! Unfortunately I don't think we're tropical enough to grow vanilla, but we'll have to look into it :)
Vanilla grows in the Grocery Store.
Agnes I was about to say make a small green house :). But a grocery store works just as good, if not better.
