Tale of Two Lawnmowers

DandelionsAs I mentioned in my previous post, our friends gave us their old lawn mower and we couldn't manage to start it. I considered going to the library to get a book on lawnmower repair and taking the thing apart. Of course then I would have to drain the oil and gas I just put in there Sunday, and I would have to go to the corner station to get more. Plus, my crash course in Lawnmower Mechanics 101 might not even be successful. And as Becca pointed out... if the gas powered lawnmower is broken now, it will probably break again.

So, I did a little research online about push mowers. Most places were selling the same one and I had a 10% off coupon for Home Depot so I went there. The first store I went to was sold out. I couldn't believe it. Who would have guessed these old fashioned lawn mowers would be so popular? They told me they were getting 25 more in next week. But our grass was already too tall, so I asked if the next closest HD had any in stock. They did, so I quickly drove over there and picked one up.

LawnmowersWhen I got home, I immediately took the mower out of it's box and put together the handle. It seemed so small and light; like a toy. It worked really well in the back yard where there is more shade and the grass isn't quite so tall. In our front yard, I had to do some prep work - it is FULL of dandelions. My best guess is that the kids from the school across the street blow the seeds around and they all land in our front lawn. The main disadvantage to the push mower is that it doesn't bag the clippings. I figured I'd better pick the blooms before cutting the grass. The bouquet pictured is just a small sample of the 6 million I picked today.
