A Good Day for Driving Around

Lunch with Aaron at ShirazWe went to Oregon City today to pick up some furniture from Aaron's parents house. On our way back to Aaron's new place we stopped at Shiraz Restaurant where the guys ate Giros.

BTW Aaron's parents are very nice. They gave us a bag of peppers from their garden and tried to give us a dog as well.

On the Wing of an EagleOn the Wings of an Eagle... literally

After ordering their food, the guys went next door to get some coffee. I noticed these little birds (unfortunately invasive European Starlings - Sturnus vulgaris) on the top of the flagpole. I thought it was funny so I took a picture.

Aaron's new apartment is pretty nice. It's in a nice location near Rock Creek and it and has some interesting architectural details.

SunsetAfter doing a little unpacking at Aaron's place, Sami and I went geocaching. We had good luck today and found 3 of 3. The first cache was 10 feet up in a big tree. But Sami didn't want to attract attention to me finding the cache so he took a picture of this pretty red tree instead. Just as we were leaving the park, we saw this nice sunset.

Lovely photos again. I have looked at this blog daily since I found your comment at Iceland Weather Report. I find your weather item in the sidebar interesting - it shows you had 10 hours between sunrise and sunset whereas IWR only has 8 now.
Do they get the midnight sun in Finland? My geography is a bit hazy, but I think Finland is quite a bit further north than England.
And well done for finding 3 out of 3 in the geocaching.

Fascinating web site, www.wunderground.com it even tells me the weather (and length of day) near where I live (LHR, London Heathrow), and in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Sorry if the clocks are misleading. I put them up when Sami was visiting his family in Finland and just never took them off.

We live in Oregon, 45 N latitude, that's about the same as New York or Southern France.

Finland is at 60-70 N, approximately the same latitude as Iceland or Alaska. So yes, in the summers they have midnight sun yötön yö (nightless night) and in the winters they have kaamos where the days are very, very short.

Personally, I find the (typical) rainy winter days in Oregon to be more depressing than the short ones in Finland because here we don't have the snow to reflect the lights.

Thanks for the additional information, Sara. I don't see how the clocks can be misleading - I think they help make the sidebar even more attractive.
